Brazil v Japan Betting Preview, Fifa Confederations Cup, Saturday 15th June 2013.

Brazil will look at this competition as a real opportunity to stamp their intentions on next summers World Cup of which they are hosts and as current holders of this tournament and having home advantage everything suggest Brazil to win this game come saturday evening.

Japan were in action just four days ago in their final 2014 World Cup qualification match of which they won 1-0 away to Iraq and that victory has now secured their place in next summers World Cup Final and that achievement itself will no doubt provide the whole squad with the confidence that they can defy the odds here and come away with at least something against their hosts in this opening game of the tournament.

Brazil v Japan Team News

Brazil Team News : Leandro Damiao has been ruled out of taking any part during the tournament for the hosts having picked up an injury to his thigh during training, but other than this coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has another otherwise full squad to choose his starting lineup from which should include the likes of Hulk, Neymar and Fred all involved at some point up front for the hosts.

Japan News : Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni will have to make do without the services of Inter Milan defender Yuto Nagatomo, who will miss this competition with a torn left meniscus and there are also huge doubts over Japan’s playmaker Keisuke Honda who is struggling with fitness having been on the sidelines most of the season with injuries and he will under take a late fitness test to see if he is likely to feature.

Brazil v Japan Head to Head Statistics

Saturday night’s match from The Estádio Nacional de Brasília, Brazil will become the 4th meeting between the two nations since 2001, with all the results of those matches available in our head to head statistics table shown below.

  • Brazil Victories : 1
  • Brazil Goals Scored : 6
  • Draws : 2
  • Japan Victories : 0
  • Japan Goals Scored : 2

Who Has The Advantage ?

Brazil have only managed the one victory over Japan since 2001, but that did come in the last meeting between the two sides and Brazil easily won the game 4-1 and if anything the Japanese squad for this game will not be at it’s strongest and everything points to a Brazil victory in this one.

Average Goals Per Game ?

8 goals have been scored in the previous 3 games played between the two sides which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.66 which suggests we should see at least a couple of goals go in during this one on saturday night.

Brazil v Japan Recent Form

Brazil : D W D D W
Japan : W L L D W

Both sides head into this game having both won two matches each during their last five games, but Brazil have remained unbeaten during their games where as Japan have lost two of theirs which does provide Brazil with a slight edge in the recent head to head stats.

Brazil v Japan Match Betting Odds Market

Brazil are the clear odds on favourites with the online bookmakers to win this game which should not come as much of a surprise as being the host nation and current holders of the tournament, it really does look unlikely that they will have too many problems winning this game, although their current best price of just 1.30 with BetVictor does look very much on the short side.

The Draw is not fancied by many people in this one, but with two of the last three games between the two sides having finished all square, there is an obvious chance that this game could also follow suit and at a best price of 5.50 with Betfred I can certainly see some takers.

Japan have a couple of injury problems to key players although Keisuke Honda could still feature in the starting lineup if he passes a late fitness test and with the squad coming off the back of a very important victory away against Iraq which booked their place in next summer’s World Cup Finals the confidence in the side will no doubt be high and although I don’t think they can win this game their current price of 11.00 with William Hill does seem a bit big.

Brazil v Japan Betting Predictions

Although Brazil easily beat France 3-0 last time out, I have to admit that their previous performances including their 2-1 defeat against England at Wembley Stadium have hardly impressed and with being the host nation of this competition the pressure will certainly be on come saturday night.

Everyone expect Brazil to comfortably win this game and when you compare both sets of squads the decision does look a very easy one to make, but Japan head into this game safe in the knowledge that they have booked their place at next summers World Cup Finals and confidence through out the squad will obviously be high and with players looking to impress their manager to secure their place on that plane I can see Japan causing Brazil some problems during this game.

As such and based on the information gathered from the head to head stats, the sensible choice here from a betting point of view does seem to be the goals markets as I would expect to see at least a few go in during this game in the brand new Estádio Nacional de Brasília on saturday night.
