Greatwood Handicap Hurdle Odds and Betting Preview

The Cheltenham Open Meeting comes to an end today with the final days racing from this famous track and the feature race today is the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle, which is a Class 1, Grade 3 event run over 2 miles, 110 yards and can be seen Live on Channel 4 High Definition with a 14:20pm GMT post time.

Twenty four entries head to post in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle and early betting markets suggest this being a two horse race with both PATEESE and MOON DICE vying for favouritism.

The Scout’s Race Verdict

The Phillips Hobbs trained PATEESE, ridden by Richard Johnson was an impressive winner last weekend at Sandown winning by a comfortable eight lengths in hand and although he has received a 5lb penaly for that win, he still races on a 10lb lower mark than he will do in the future and has to be feared, especially with trainer Richard Hobbs having won this race last year with Menorah.

MOON DICE trained by Paul Flynn and ridden by Tom Doyle landed the Galway Hurdles back in the summer and has been clearly laid out for this race, however with an official rating of 144 and having to give Pateese 10lb, it really will need a great performance for this Irish Raider to come home in front.

For those looking for an outsider in this race then you have plenty of choice with the previous mentioned the clear market leaders, however the Tom George trained OLOFI, ridden by Paddy Brennan could certainly be worth an each way interest, especially having came second in this race last year and with the stable in much better form this time around, last years runner up could be the one to upset the main market leaders at a very big price.
