Leicester City v Manchester City Match Preview

Leicester have been outstanding so far this season and even after their defeat on Boxing Day, they remain top of the table by two points. Claudio Ranieri will want his side to bounce back immediately here but they have a tough task on their hands coming up against a City side high on confidence after beating Sunderland comfortably on Saturday.

Leicester failed to score for the first time this season last time out but they will be confident they can get back to scoring ways because their opponents have conceded in all of their last nine matches. It will be Leicester’s defence that will be tested on Tuesday evening as they face the league’s joint-top scorers with themselves and we are likely to see Sergio Aguero re-join the attack.

Manchester City have been very inconsistent this season and as they head into what is arguably their biggest game of the season to date, they have lost their last three matches away from home and have failed to score in two of those. They need to translate their home performances into away ones and this would be the perfect opportunity to start as a win could take them to the top of the table if Arsenal fail to beat Bournemouth.

Leicester City Latest Team News:

Leicester are expected to be without the trio of Jeffrey Schlupp, Danny Drinkwater, Matthew James for this match. Andy King has been filling in for Danny Drinkwater in the last couple of matches but we could see Claudio Ranieri make changes to the line-up following the defeat to Liverpool on Boxing Day.

Manchester City Latest Team News:

Manchester City will still be without Samir Nasri due to a hamstring injury but the bad news for City fans is that Vincent Kompany could be out even longer. He was brought on in the 62nd minute against Sunderland on Boxing Day but was forced off less than 10 minutes later in the 71st minute after over-streching.

Leicester City v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics

04/03/15 BPL Manchester City v Leicester City 2 : 0
13/12/14 BPL Leicester City v Manchester City 0 : 1
17/12/13 CAP Leicester City v Manchester City 1 : 3
18/01/11 FAC Manchester City v Leicester City 4 : 2
09/01/11 FAC Leicester City v Manchester City 2 : 2

These two current top four sides have faced each other on 99 different occasions previous to this match and as expected, Manchester City have been better side with 48 wins to Leicester’s 25.

But in the 49 meetings in which Leicester have hosted the fixture, Leicester have turned it around and have taken the initiative at home after beating City in 18 of those matches whilst losing just 16.

Using head to head statistics alone it would suggest that Manchester City have the greater chance of taking all three points in this one but Leicester do stand a chance due to holding the home advantage.

Leicester City Recent Form

26/12/15 BPL Liverpool v Leicester City 1 : 0
19/12/15 BPL Everton v Leicester City 2 : 3
14/12/15 BPL Leicester City v Chelsea 2 : 1
05/12/15 BPL Swansea v Leicester City 0 : 3
28/11/15 BPL Leicester City v Manchester United 1 : 1

Leicester are in strong form heading into this match with three wins, a draw and a loss in their last five matches but with that loss coming last time out against Liverpool, they will be looking to bounce back here with at least a point.

Manchester City Recent Form

26/12/15 BPL Manchester City v Sunderland 4 : 1
21/12/15 BPL Arsenal v Manchester City 2 : 1
12/12/15 BPL Manchester City v Swansea 2 : 1
08/12/15 CHA Manchester City v Borussia Monchengladbach 4 : 2
05/12/15 BPL Stoke v Manchester City 2 : 0

Manchester City are in decent form with three wins and two losses in their last five but with both of those losses coming on the road, they are in for a difficult match here at the King Power.

In the 99 matches that have taken place between these two sides, there has been a total of 326 goals meaning that there has been an average goals per game of 3.29.

And in the 49 meetings in which Leicester have been the home side, there has been 142 goals scored meaning that there has been an average goals per game of 2.90.

Both sets of data suggest that the game on Tuesday evening will see a minimum of two goals in the match with a decent chance of three or more.

Leicester City v Manchester City Free Sports Bets, Tips & Predictions

This is a difficult match to the predict the result because both teams are capable of scoring a few goals and it could go either way but I think one thing is for sure and that is that both teams will score in this match. Manchester City are poor defensively without their leader Vincent Kompany and I expect Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to capitalize on their weaknesses, especially Jamie Vardy behind the two centre-backs.

At the other end of the pitch, City are going into the match high on confidence and along with the return of Sergio Aguero I expect them to thrive going forward.

And as for my saver I have decided to go for Jamie Vardy to score any-time in this match because Manchester City have not been able to find a centre-back partnership that works without Vincent Kompany.

I expect Jamie Vardy to get in behind City’s high back line and I can see him scoring a couple in this match.
