Cardiff City welcome Preston North End to the cardiff city stadium on friday night and with the hosts having had a tough time of it lately having lost their last two matches on the bounce this has become a must win game if they are to keep in the race for the championship title, as they now find themselves 8pts behind current leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Defeats by Bolton and Fulham in recent weeks will not have done the confidence of the players any good as they prepare for this tough looking match against Preston North End and with their manager also having to deal with a number of injuries to some key players, the hosts will certainly have their work cut out for them come friday night.

Preston North End head into the game having remained unbeaten in their last eight matches, their last defeat coming back on the 4th of November when losing 3-0 away against Ipswich Town. The visitors are currently 10pts behind their hosts in the league table, but will be in confident mood of causing a bit of an upset in this game what with Cardiff City having struggled in recent weeks.

Looking at the recent head to head last five matches table above, we see that both clubs have managed to win two games each with the remaining match having finished all square.

However, Cardiff City have won both of their matches when having home advantage with Preston North End’s last victory at the cardiff city stadium coming way back on the 19th of November 2004 !

Cardiff City having won two and drawn one of the three previous matches having been played at home during the month of december over the last 17 years.

If the hosts were at full strength for this game I would have no hesitation in tipping them to win this game, however with a few key players suffering from injuries and unlikely to be involved and Preston North End having remained unbeaten since the 4th November, I am finding it quite difficult to find a value interest for this game.

Four of the last five meetings between the two clubs have ended up with the game seeing two or three goals having been scored, so I am going to hope that trend continues in what does look like being a very tight affair.

Both clubs have injuries to their squad with Cardiff City being without the services of J.Richards with C.Bryson, L.Camp, A.Gunnarsson and D.Ward all struggling with knocks.

Preston North End will be without the services of  S.Maguire other than that the visitors have a full squad at their disposal.
